HARRAH’S Entertainment, the US casino giant taken private by private equity firms Texas Pacific Group and Apollo Management two years ago, has declared its intention to take the company public again but has said it will need to wait for the economy to recover and for online poker to be legalised in the US first, Harrah’s chief executive Gary Loveman told delegates at a Reuters conference in New York this week. The private equity firms’ leveraged buyout of the casino giant for US$31bn in January 2008 doubled the casino group’s debt to US$19bn. Harrah’s launched an online business, Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment, in May last year, with HIE chief executive Mitch Garber predicting legal online gambling in the US.

Asian Casino Equipment Sales ‘Could Hit US$400 Million’ Annually

January 14th, 2010

A Singapore-based gaming manufacturer has told yogonet and Channel News Asia he believes annual casino equipment sales in Asia could hit US$ 400 million.

The opening of the two integrated resorts (IRs) in Singapore will assist in creating that windfall adds David Kinsman of Weike Gaming Technology. The potential bonanza could also benefit makers of security systems as well as tables and slots he suggests.

Most of the equipment to be used in the first phases of the two integrated resorts–Resorts World at Sentosa and Marina Bay Sands–has already been ordered and is waiting either regulatory clearance or deployment on the floor.

The recent history of Macau has shown however that opportunities arise for suppliers post-opening as operators tweak their offer in the light of hard experience on the front line of the casino floor.

New integrated Resorts in Singapore Set to Spur the Gaming Machines Industry

January 13th, 2010

(Singapore).- The opening of the two integrated resorts (IRs) in Singapore is likely to be a windfall for makers of casino-related products, including gaming machines, tables and surveillance systems. Industry players estimated that annual sales could hit us$ 400 million across Asia. They said that operating out of Singapore may be a smart bet for slot machines suppliers.

Singapore company Weike Gaming Technology appears to have hit the jackpot. The 12-year-old firm is one of many manufacturers that supplies slot machines to the two IRs in Singapore. This year, Weike is targeting a 10 to 20 per cent growth in business. Currently, Weike exports about 90 per cent of its products.

Going forward, it will be betting on the two new IRs and 71 clubs around Singapore that operate gaming machines to boost its domestic business. Weike is aiming to get about a third of its sales from Singapore by end-2011.
